This section combines two views of the Leeds and Liverpool canal:

• a technical plan made with a view to the future construction of the canal, published in the Gentleman’s Magazine in 1772.

• engravings from Turner’s river drawings showing a retrospective view with several time schemes - the engraving technique was itself pioneering - mezzotint and steel engraving.

These views will be combined according to several types of interactive effects available on websites; reflect:

• on the alternative views of such places in the 18^th and 19^th centuries

• on their present-day digital interpretations
